Camp Café Gourmet Companies First Charitable Program

Press Release

Café Gourmet of Baltimore, Maryland today announced it’s rollout of the charitable program “Camp Café Gourmet”.

The program, designed to send financially underprivileged children to YMCA overnight camps, will begin this summer by sending its’ first group of boys and girls to Camps Ockanickon and Matollionequay in Medford Lakes, New Jersey.

The program will identify needy boys and girls ages 7 through 16 and provide an all-expense paid one week stay at this historic YMCA camp. “It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, now”, states David Redmond, Principal of Café Gourmet. “We realize that there are numerous deserving children in the Baltimore area who would learn and grow by experiencing this once in a lifetime opportunity”.

The camps, located about an hour and a half drive from Baltimore, sit on 565 scenic acres of Central New Jersey lakes and woodlands. They offer a multitude of programs and experiences, including hiking, swimming, campfire building, canoeing, boating, tennis, archery, basketball, dances and co-ed activities. But more importantly, the camps teach life skills, such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

“We hope to send at least six to ten children this year and then expand on the program in the future”, Redmond states. “As a company, we’re sending two youngsters ourselves, and we hope that community minded corporate sponsors will join us to send more deserving children”.

The Camp Café Gourmet program is one of several that the company is involved in. They started their charitable work by donating 100% of their net sales from September 11th for three consecutive years to the Children of 9/11 Fund, and by collecting funds for this charity through their stores. Café Gourmet also sponsors children through the work of programs such as the Children’s Christian Fund and Children, Inc. They are involved in charitable work with single and abused mothers of Baltimore and plan on hosting golf tournaments in the future to benefit these and other Baltimore charities.
